Olivia Lum of Hyflux

Olivia Lum is the founder, group Chief Executive Officer and President
of the Singapore-based Hyflux Group.

She was adopted at birth in Malaysia,
never knew her biological parents.
She was brought up by a lady
whom she called her grandmother.

At 15 years of age,
she came to Singapore.
Enrolled at Tiong Bahru Secondary.
Then Serangoon Junior College.
She graduated with an honours degree in Chemistry
from National University of Singapore.
She supported herself through tutoring and sales jobs.

At the age of 28 in 1998, Olivia Lum set up Hydrochem,
the precusor to Hyflux, with just SG$20,000.
As of 2007, Hyflux was worth SG$1 billion
and employed more than 800 people worldwide.


Olivia Lum is a great role model for every student.
With tenacity and determination, nothing is impossible.
