Singapore is granted permanent observer status on the Arctic Council in Kiruna, Sweden. The Republic is recognised for its expertise in shipping, coastal management and maritime governance.
The Arctic is estimated to hold 30% of the world's undiscovered gas and 13% of oil, as well as one-fifth of the world's fisheries.
