Who is better?

A person who attends church religiously every Sunday.
But his character speaks otherwise for the rest of the week.

or...

A non-believer who has very fine character consistently everyday in his life.

Dear Audrey ~~ I think the latter. I have known some people who go to church and think they are so much better than the rest of us and can act anyhow during the weel. Thanks for the tag if that is what it was on my remark that if we experience suffering and many troubles, we seem to be better people.
I am so glad that the heavy rain has eased in Singapore. Still very bad in Thailand. Take care my friend. Love Merle.

Hi Audrey' ~~ A nice question you have asked. I will dance around it.

I call the first a hypocrite. Our church people would say that he very likely isn't saved because of his 'fruits' that don't measure up.

I have known the second kind. They are the salt of the earth and would make very good Christians. But they must be convinced that to reject Jesus Christ as Savior is a sin. The sin of disbelief. They likely believe the Bible is true but somehow have missed the part that they are rejecting as not being true.

Glad you asked me. That is how I see it. Both need help to see where they are going wrong.

The latter is far superior. Religion is (or should be) the expression of good virtue and character, but not necessarily the cause of it. Good character is a universal truth, is recognizable outside of religious traditions, and stands as it's own reward.
